Star Trek Online will beam in on February 5, 2009

There are just too many easy Star Trek jokes (“Phasers set to stun!” “Warp speed!” “Beam me up!”) – so, I promise I’ll stay away for the remainder of this post. Trekkers and MMO fans, here’s what you need to know – Star Trek Online has finally received it’s official release date. The game will be available on February 5th in North America, just in time for a particularly exciting Valentine’s day. Are you ready for a little klingon-on-vulcan action? I so am!

“Star Trek Online allows you to join either the Federation or the Klingons as the commander of your own starship. Players will be able to go on away missions, engage in ship-to-ship combat, and build their own crews from scratch.

Official release date is February 5 in North America.”

The game looks excellent – allowing all Trek enthusiasts to actually go in and captain their own starship sounds like the ultimate way to apologize for the sins of the lesser Star Trek movies. Undiscovered Country, I’m looking at you.
