Mirrors edgeOften criticized for releasing the same type of games year after year, Electronic Arts gave us one of 2008′s truly unique games in Mirror’s Edge.

And the gaming consumers let out a collective yawn.

Despite so-so sales, EA CEO John Riccitiello remains committed to this new property and said as much in an interview with Kotaku.

“We’re still working through things like how to best deal with Mirror’s Edge 2. There are some things we learned about that [first] game. It was, I think, a massively innovative product. To be honest with you, I think it’s a game that deserves to come back.”

Riccitiello said EA wants to continue both Mirror’s Edge and Dead Space, another critically acclaimed franchise with low sales. The latest game in that series, Wii-exclusive Dead Space Extraction, isn’t selling either.

I hope both these games can find audiences but it won’t be easy. Even a company as large as EA can’t afford to keep putting out games that just don’t connect with enough players.
