Assassin's Creed IIIf you follow news about Assassin’s Creed II, you’ll know the game has serious issues. If you own either the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions of the game, there’s a very good chance you’ve actually experienced these problems and glitches firsthand. Thankfully, Ubisoft is stepping up with a game-repairing patch. If you own a PS3, you’re lucky! The PS3 Assassin’s Creed II patch was released today (December 9, 2009). If you’re a Xbox 360 owner, then you have to be patient and wait until your patch is released on December 11, 2009.

The Assassin’s Creed II patch mainly fixes a laundry list of situation and mission specific glitches that could totally ruin your game playing experience. Seriously, it’s a massive list. It fixes eight situation glitches and eight mission specific glitches. The only non-glitch related issue this patch address addresses is related to sound – it adds 5.1 LPCM sound support.

Let’s go through the list of fixes announced in the Ubisoft Assassin’s Creed II Forums:

  • Altair’s Armor: No more game crashes while Ezio is wearing it.
  • Animus Loading Screen: No more crashing.
  • Auditore Cape: You don’t become notorious just for putting on the cape.
  • Fast Travel: Ezio will always be able to use fast travel stations.
  • Free Roaming/Parkour: Ezio will now follow the laws of gravity and no longer start floating.
  • Glyph: No more getting stuck in “the truth menu” if you press buttons too quickly.
  • Toscana: No more getting trapped here or having the game crash when Ezio dies here.
  • Water: All character no longer get trapped if they fall in.
  • Sequence 5 Mission 1: The game won’t freeze.
  • Sequence 6 Mission 2: The game won’t freeze when Ezio fights guards.
  • Sequence 7 Mission 2: Civilians now obey the laws of gravity and don’t float.
  • Sequence 7 Mission 7: The game won’t crash in open combat.
  • Sequence 8: You’ll spawn on the tower if you desynchronize during the flying machine sequence.
  • Sequence 11 Mission 5: Ezio won’t get stuck in the hideout if you quit and load the game.
  • Sequence 14 Mission 2: Ezio won’t go all invisible man on you if guards hit him with rocks.
  • Secret Location Vizitatione: Ezio won’t get stuck if he locks on the gun-toting agile guard.

You know, I can understand two or three glitches that make a game crash, but 16 game freezing, crashing or generally halting glitches? That’s insane! At that point, Ubisoft should have delayed Assassin’s Creed II and instead of releasing it on November 17, 2009, released it a month later after extensive quality testing had been done to ensure all of these problems were fixed before it reached consumers.

  1. I never experienced any game-breaking problems. In fact, the only glitches I experienced was picking up a dead guard with his body still lying on the ground and Ezio assuming the toting position, as if he were toting a guard; and at one point in the game, one of the enemy indicators got stuck on the screen, no matter where I went or what I did. I had to restart the game in order for it to go away.

  2. Didn't know the game had glitches. I never saw them. The only issue I have now is finding the last feather for the cape.

  3. I can't play a single session without it crashing at some random point… Only fix seems to be to start over… which makes it unplayable. I wonder if it's just me doing something the game wasn't "designed" to do, or like the article suggests released on time despite glitches in the hopes of being able to patch everything afterwards…

  4. stuck on sequence 7 where I'm supposed to get a cut scene when I climb a tower, except I didn't get any, and I can't climb this one beam of wood with a light on it. Messed around a bunch and knocked the light on the beam into the wall o.O
