Amazon.com now has listings for both Pokemon HeartGold and Pokemon SoulSilver. Both listings provide box art, have March 14, 2010 release dates and are priced at $34.99.
The box art image is what’s intriguing. In the bottom right corner, it shows a picture of the PokeWalker pedometer peripheral that came with every Japanese copy of HeartGold and SoulSilver. Underneath the image it says:
The PokeWalker is sort of like the Pokemon Pikachu peripherals released in the US. In the original Pokemon Pikachu pedometer, you’d get watts for walking that you could use to make Pikachu happy. The Pokemon Pikachu 2 could connect to Pokemon Gold and Silver with Mystery Gift to give you special items based on how much you walked. The PokeWalker is similar only in that it communicates with HeartGold and SoulSilver and also uses watts as currency.
The PokeWalker is more about building relationships with pokemon, catching pokemon and finding items. You transfer any pokemon from HeartGold or SoulSilver to the PokeWalker first. Then, you walk around to earn watts. Once you have enough watts, you can use the Poke Radar to try and find pokemon to fight, and possibly catch, or use the Item Finder to find items. You can keep three pokemon and three items, and then must reconnect to the DS game to transfer them. Its a pretty cool bonus feature. Certainly sounds more promising than Personal Trainer: Walking.
