GameStop $20 trade in 2009 creditGameStop has announced a trade-in promotion for PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 games. Between December 26, 2009 and January 10, 2010, people can come in with a PS3, Wii or Xbox 360 and get a $20 credit towards any purchase made in the store that day. GameStop’s even put up a list online, so you can check if you have an acceptable game for the deal before you even leave the house.

There are two conditions though, in order to get $20 for turning in one game. First, the game you trade in must be a PS3, Wii or Xbox 360 game on GameStop’s approved list. Second, you must immediately make a purchase. You can’t bring in a game during the period and expect to get $20 worth of credit you can use any time. You have to use that credit immediately.

Honestly, there are more good games on the GameStop trade-in list than shovelware equivalent titles. I mean, only $20 trade in credit for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Dragon Age: Origins or Brutal Legend? It’s an insult. Amazon will give you a $31.25 credit for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, a $28 credit for Dragon Age Origins or a $30 credit for Brutal Legend.

Of course, this is old news to anyone who’s ever considered trading in a game at a GameStop store. Last time I went in, I brought a $30 DS RPG to see what I could get for trading it in towards a PSP game. I’d already checked Amazon and seen it would give me $17. GameStop only offered me $8. I bet you can guess which offer I took.
