These five games are some that everyone seemed to adore but I didn’t care for at all. This by no means suggests that these are bad games but they wouldn’t get my recommendation if asked.

Despite getting critical acclaim from many, these five games gave me nothing but stress and I have to get this off my chest before 2010 gets underway.

  1. Red Faction Guerrilla (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)
Red Faction Guerrilla was praised for its open world and fully destructible structures. Watching things crumble was pretty much all this game did for me. I really disliked the floaty feel when controlling the vehicles more than anything. Vehicles were required to get around the large Martian landscape but they were too cumbersome for me to enjoy. The enemies in Guerrilla were unmerciful as well. My typical scenario involved seeing a structure I wanted to destroy and clearing out all the enemies around it. As soon as I tried to smash the building to bits, more enemies would spawn from thin air and interrupt the little fun I was having. Even on easy difficulty I couldn’t enjoy this game.
  2. Dragon Age: Origins (Xbox 360, PC, PS3)
I believe one of the main reasons I didn’t enjoy Dragon Age: Origins is because I played it on a console. I understand the importance of a top down strategic viewpoint this game is meant to be played with, but the console version didn’t have this feature. I couldn’t get past the dated graphics either. After playing Mass Effect, which is another BioWare game, it’s hard to accept visuals that resemble that of an MMO. I also felt overwhelmed by the amount of equipment and customization early on. I just couldn’t shake the feeling that I was playing the game wrong. Again I understand these reasons may be what make Dragon Age: Origins a great game, but it’s not my style.
  3. Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360, PC)
My reason for not caring for Left for Dead 2 is simple. I don’t see L4D2 as a full-blown sequel but rather a $60 expansion. A game such as this depends on gameplay variety alone because there is no story to speak of. Unfortunately the gameplay hasn’t changed much from the original L4D. Sure. there are some melee weapons, new characters and enemies, but this isn’t something modders couldn’t have done (and probably have). At it’s core L4D2 is basically like a traveling circus. It has the same acts in a different location.
  4. Mega Man 9 (PSN, XBLA)
Mega Man has one of the most dedicated followings in gaming history. It was a long time since a true Mega Man sequel was made before Capcom announced Mega Man 9. The problem I had with this game was the over reliance on nostalgia. People were so starved for a true Mega Man title that no one seemed to care they were playing a 20-year-old game in every sense of the term. After playing and being impressed with Capcom’s Bionic Commando: Rearmed remake, I couldn’t accept why something similar couldn’t be done with Mega Man 9. If the graphics were redone and the music refined, Mega Man 9 would have been a game I enjoyed. Now it seems Mega Man 10 will follow the same dated pattern as its predecessors.
  5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled (XBLA, PSN)
This game was another victim of the nostalgia virus. If the original game provided so many great memories then logically an updated version should be even better. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case with Re-Shelled. Maybe we’ve been so spoiled with additional game types and unlockables that madeRe-Shelled feel very basic. 2009 was not the year to completely rekindle my childhood love of the turtles.

  1. My problem with Mega Man 9 was the difficult. I had more trouble with it than I did the early Mega Man games on the NES. I loved the presentation though, and Mega Man 10, with the optional easy setting and Protoman available immediately, will be an instant buy for me. :D

  2. next time you are doing a count down, count from top 10 or 5. You don't start from 1:/

Also Left4Dead 2 was not disappointing, in some way it may. But to me it's a major improvement to L4D 1. I mean L4D 1 felt like a beta, but this game feels like what L4D1 should have been.

I tried the demo and thought there should be more weapons in the game, but I was wrong.

Left4Dead 2 is a good game better than Left4Dead 1 but not still an overall a great game.

  3. I'm afraid you horribly misunderstood the focal point of Red Faction. It's called Red Faction: Guerrilla, not Red Faction: Rambo for a reason. You aren't meant to devastate every single enemy in an area before destroying the building because the EDF was designed to seem like they had limitless manpower and resources. The game's challenge came from the idea that you were a heavily outnumbered and outgunned resistance fighter, not a one-man-military. Almost every single game feature reflected this gameplay style, such as very limited ammo or the area control increasing the odds of citizens taking up arms (which was actually very useful in narrow escapes.)

I understand that your complaints were mostly with vehicle handling, but try not to bash the game based on gameplay concepts you're clearly a little too dense to understand. After all, if you have even a passing knowledge of the English language you can figure out what type of fighting you can expect by reading that word on the cover!

  4. Simply put, few reasonable people would agree with the majority of your choices here. Red Faction : Guerilla was a fantastic title, did exactly what it was supposed to. With a fair choice of vehicles, there would be one to fit your driving style, and Sayyiduna so accurately put it, you are not a one man army. I have the game on the highest difficulty, and I have never had a problem. When I die, it's my own fault. Typically however, I will take out my target, and it will be incredible doing so. The game is simply phenomenal, one of the best of the year. And few people mention the multiplayer, yet it's absolutely brilliant.

And L4D2 simply is not an expansion pack. Find me another DLC pack which gives you X number of campaigns, X number of new players, an all new weapon set (melee), path destruction by the director AI, new damage models, new special infected etc etc, all for any price below full? No DLC contains that much, it is a game in it's own right.

I can't speak for the others in their own right, but your list is simply ill researched.

  5. how can u say L4D2 not a sequel?! as a player who played L4D1 until release L4D2 and playing L4D2, i will tell u the changes:

the graphics has improve, the AI gets better (not saying L4D1 was bad),weapons and melee, new infected, bigger campain and weather change.

about the gameplay it has change alot, the maps got bigger and more open and u cant set in the corner as always and depend on melee. finally, main menu there is scanvage and the most impressive one realism( more AI more difficulty).

    thank u

  6. WTF?
how can you even think RFG was a disappointing game?
it was a massive brilliant game, game of the month if infamous did not come out in the same month.
what other game has buildings brought down so realistically?
the only thing about RFG that disappointed me was the walkers, they create such a cool tool than restrict its use to once or twice throughout the whole game.
    vehicles cumbersome?
ahhhh they are mining trucks what the hell did you expect?
your not driving a lotus Elise!

    same goes for L4D2.
so what if its a "expantion pack" even though it certainly is not.
they added more weapons, new characters, new enemies, new areas, new levels WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?
what so the gameplay is the same, there for its not a seque,l its a expansion pack?
so in that case halo 2, halo 3, halo ODST, hell almost every shooter is a expantion pack if thats your requirements for a sequel.
if picking up a chainsaw and dismembering a zombie is not your cup of tea, your in the wrong industry.

and since when do games need to have amazing graphics to be great games?
dragon age origins was a amazing game, the customization is incredible.
which you say is a bad thing.
how can customization, different options be a bad thing?
i miss the good old days where gameplay and storyline were the 2 most important things in a game, now all people are worried about is graphics.
i like good graphics as much as the next guy, uncharted 2 made me paper my pants, BUT graphics are the least important thing when it comes to making a good game.
a game with crap graphics but great gameplay can be a good game.
a game with uncharted 2 graphics but poor gameplay can not be a good game.

  7. your guys listing is fail like your website mega man 9 looks horrible in 3d havent you guys looked at the ps1 version.. and what happened with that tmnt game thats what mm9 could have looked like if it was improved graphically

    mm9
  8. I actually completely agree with this list and I have to tell you "Sayyiduna" game titles don't mean anything. Like Modern Warfare 2, I wouldn't expect that playing this game I would encounter people duel-wielding anything…let alone two 1887s. And RFG is a disappoint, if you were actually a fan of RF. This game holds no similarities between RF and RF2 except for its namesake. On top of that, if any of you guys weren't born in the year 2000 and never touched a PC game you would understand how I've spent $30 on expansion packs that had more value than L4D and L4D2 combined. Take pretty much any RTS and look at their expansions which add new units, new story, etc. All for $30

Seriously though, you guys are just being butthurt. He isn't calling them the worst games ever, he is simply stating that he expected more from these games. Calm down!

  10. Nice one lol this list = Fail purely for the fact that MM9 was released in 2008!

    Simon
  11. I disagree with Dragon Age: Origins being on here. However all the other games were definetly dissapointing.

    David Macphail
  12. Mega Man 9 was released in 2008 not 2009

    Duffman
  13. Red Faction Guerrilla was one of the most enjoyable games i've played ever. I hope this one to have a second part soon.

    Tom
  14. I told all of you Left 4 Dead 2 was a dissapointment to the rest of the gaming industry! XD HA HA! I TOLD YA DIDN'T I!! XP

    Balram
  15. Wow! This could actually be the worst article I've read in all of 2009.
As for L4D2, you should really read this: http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=93151

  16. Wah Megaman 9 the graphics weren't l33t enough for my h4x0r skillz. WTF? I'm glad they changed it up, it's great to have variety. I feel you may rely too much on looks rather than the depth in gameplay, please step up you're game before you try to represent the gaming community sir.

Also waaaahhhh Megaman 9 is too hard, so it sucks, to all the super cool commentators on this page.

    Bob
  17. Your article sucks dude. You have lost all credibility at all with phrases like "being impressed with Capcom’s Bionic Commando: Rearmed remake". That game sucked ass man. All 5 of those game are unbelievably good, and im not even a fan of L4D or valve. Hell even the ninja turtle game was great cause it was only 15 bucks(10 bucks if you grabbed it on sale). I hope i remember not to read any of your articles anymore.

    Matthew
  18. You're article fails and so do you.

I never read your site before and I never will again.

    Unless you post crap again.

    Which you might.

So I might come back to criticize

    Stop writing

  19. This article is a load of bullshit. It's obvious the author doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.

This site blows, and so do the people behind it.

    This Site Blows
  20. In all honesty, I hope you wrote this article just to get hits. If you actually believe this, I feel sorry for you.

I can't possibly think you believe this list is accurate. Again, if you were not joking when you wrote this, your article merely shows that you have no place speaking about video games.

Good luck in your future endeavors as a writer. Maybe try an editorial on how gravity is a liberal-socialist invention.

  21. Wow this website is a joke….This Website is a dissappointment…Left 4 dead 2 ..Yea i thought the same before i bought it but it is worth it ..scvange is fun and the missions are to…Dragon age Origins is THE best RPG out in 2009…and i bought almost every big RPG to hit the Market on the Xbox 360..and possibly out in 2009..haven't played Ps3 exclusive RPG's yet… Sorry but this website is a joke…can't even tell what a good game is i guess..

    Clos
  22. Well, you're wrong, because the story in Left 4 Dead 2 starts in the first campaign and goes throughout the fifth. Get your fucking shit together and play the games before you decide they are expansions. And if Left 4 Dead 2 is an expansion, I'd love to see what qualifies as a sequel to you.

    Dillon
  23. Why do you hate fun?

    Keddren
  24. So… you didn't like RFG because it eas too hard? |:

    Murdoc
  25. I wish my MMO's looked like Dragon Age, then maybe I could stop playing it and get back to leveling my characters…

It does have a major flaw though, it was made to be playable on consoles by short attention spanned kids of all ages! You have to market it to the masses says big brother EA… and unfortunately the masses are morons.

    See you on the flip-side!

    Phil
  26. I would add pretty much every Halo game to my surprisingly disappointing games list. Along with Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days ( http://www.gamertell.com/gaming/comment/gamertell-review-kingdom-hearts-365-over-2-days-for-ds/ ).
