Dragon Age: Origins may be a Bioware game, but its also an EA game. So, it shouldn’t be any surprise to anyone that the wave of expansion packs is about to begin. EA and Bioware have announced that the first Dragon Age: Origins expansion pack, Awakening, will be released on March 16, 2010, for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. There’s a little bit of a shock though, concerning the price. While most expansion packs typically cost about half of the price of the original game, Awakening will cost $39.99.
I suppose the price makes sense in a way, since Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening sounds like it’s almost a whole new game. You’re a Grey Warden Commander who must resurrect the order of Grey Wardens, while also discovering why there are still darkspawn around and what to do with them. You can either use your existing character from Dragon Age: Origins or create an entirely new one, as you learn all kinds of new skills, face new monsters and work with five new party members. Apparently, only one of the party members from Dragon Age: Origins returns in Awakening, and the press release and website neglect to mention who is coming back.
Speaking of the website, you can head over to the new Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening expansion pack website. It’s already open. There isn’t too much there though. It’s mainly five screenshots from the expansion and a few blurbs about what’s new in the expansion that makes it worth an additional $40.
Also, don’t get confused and mistake Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening with the Return to Ostagar, the downloadable content pack. There’s going to be much more content in Awakening that will make it worthwhile. Plus its much more expensive.
