Heavy Rain PS3
If you own a PS3 and you’re eagerly anticipating Sony’s Heavy Rain, then check out Qore when you get home. It’s got a nice little blurb in it about Heavy Rain, and that happened to leak a possible release date. According to Qore, the game will be released February 16, 2010.

However, Sony has just announced via the PlayStation.Blog that the Qore release date is off by a few days, and Heavy Rain will be out February 23, 2010. GameStop was backing up Qore, as its Heavy Rain listing showed a February 16, 2010 release date as of 11:02am CST on January 8, 2010. That’ll probably be changing to the correct date pretty soon.

If this is the first you’re hearing about Heavy Rain, here’s why there’s a lot of hype surrounding it. First, it’s by developers Quantic Dream, whose previous work includes the highly acclaimed Indigo Prophecy, a PS2 adventure game which only used the analog sticks to control it and had players controlling three/four different characters, all on different sides. It was a sort of crime, murder mystery thriller, and pretty much every action you performed would have some kind of effect on the game.

Heavy Rain will act in a similar manner. It is also an adventure game, and a thriller with murder mystery elements, as you’re assisting four different individuals as they search for a serial killer called the Origami Killer. It will also feature a unique control scheme, just like Indigo Prophesy, and allow players actions to influence the plot, no matter how small said actions are.

Heavy Rain is a PS3 exclusive, and will cost $59.99 when it is released. It still hasn’t been rated by the ESRB, but Indigo Prophesy was rated “Mature” so it wouldn’t be too surprising if a “Mature” rating is tacked into Heavy Rain as well.

Editor’s Note: This story was updated at 11:01am CST, January 8, 2010 after Sony officially announced the Heavy Rain release date.
