Battle DefendersDango has created and launched Battle Defenders, an interesting, free Facebook game that could interest a lot of gamers. Battle Defenders is a tower defense game, a strategy title where you must place units on a field to prevent enemies from proceeding down paths to your goal. However, there’s a twist – you get to be a defender and an attacker.

Battle Defenders is played in rounds. One round, a player will be a defender. The defender must set up his or her field before play, putting up the correct arrangement of soldiers and barriers to try and keep the attacker from reaching a flag. The next round, if the defender survives, he will become an attacker. An attacker must decide which soldiers to send out against the defender’s forces, to hopefully reach the flag. Successful defense gives the defender coins and a counter-attack opportunity. Successful assault means the attacker gets coins and perhaps even wins the game.

When you start Battle Defenders, you decide who you want to fight, and how many coins you want to bet on the battle. The bet part is a bit misleading, as it means how many coins you can use to buy troops in battle. You can choose to invite your own friends to play, or choose to fight against similar level people from around the world. You will then have to place human fighters to defeat your orc foes and keep them from reaching your flag. When you’re an attacker, you drop the units you want to send to fight on your flag and they’ll head out once the next turn starts. Placing units is easy, since you just drag and drop. There are different maps to fight on, which you unlock as you play based on your level and the number of coins you have.

Battle Defenders wasn’t quite what I expected though. I played three battles, and it’s more like your “foe” is just there. There didn’t seem to be any real multiplayer interaction. Each time the computer seemed to decide how many units would attack you or you’d have to attack. It didn’t seem like I was playing against other, real players. So I’m not sure how the multiplayer part really works, or why there was a need to choose a “foe” before entering a battle. Maybe you get to pretend your friend is your foe? Aside from the multiplayer not seeming to be I thought, Battle Defenders was pretty interesting and I did enjoy playing.
