We have some not so great news for those of you who hate PS3 firmware updates. Sony has gone live once again with its 3.15 firmware update and this time you’ll have no choice but to download it.
3.15 was released in December of 2008 as an optional update that included a data transfer utility to move files from one PS3 to another using a LAN cable. It also enabled PSP Mini’s to be played on a PS3.
In addition to those features, 3.15 also “improves system stability” while playing certain games. Sony makes a habit out of reciting that extremely vague phrase, but a SCEE representative told Joystiq some players were having trouble earning Trophies in some titles. Apparently making this update mandatory was the only way to fix it.
If you didn’t download 3.15 in December, you’ll be prompted to the next time you boot up your PS3. You can also download the update file from the official PlayStation site.
