Harvest Moon games are typically about starting a farm to either revitalize it, or restore a town, but things are a bit different in Natsume’s forthcoming PSP game, Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley. Instead of bringing new life to a forgotten farm and country town, you’re trying to raise money and save the area from being turned into an amusement park by Funland.
Hero of Leaf Valley also offers some concepts new to the Harvest Moon series, or at least portable versions of the Harvest Moon series. Like Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility for the Wii, Hero of Leaf Valley allows players to perform part-time jobs. Only in the PSP game they’re interactive part-time jobs, so you can’t just watch your character talk to people for a few minutes then get money and relationship points.
Another new concept is that there are multiple possible endings. I’m sure there will be ones where, after you save the town you can keep playing, but since there’s more than one you never know. Maybe there’s an ending where Leaf Valley is turned into Funland’s Leaf Valley and everyone gets new jobs working at the amusement park.
There is one sad note, for female fans of the series. While most of the recent entries like Tree of Tranquility, Island of Happiness, Sunshine Islands and Animal Parade allowed players to choose what gender they want their character to be, you can only play as a male lead in Hero of Leaf Valley.
If you’re interested, keep an eye at your favorite game store or online retailer around April, 2010. That’s when Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley will be released. Make sure you have a little over $29.99 ready to buy it too!
