Square Enix is continuing its trend of near-simultaneous release dates with the forthcoming action RPG Nier. The company first announced that Nier, an Xbox 360 exclusive in Japan, will come out April 22, 2010. The latest announcement states that the North American PS3 and Xbox 360 counterparts will be out April 27, 2010. In a neat little twist, Japanese gamers will have to import the PS3 version if they want to play Nier on their systems. That should please Tales of Vesperia PS3 fans who will likely have to resort to importing to play it!
As for Nier Replicant, there’s no news on a North American release. It’s a PS3 exclusive, and the PS3 is region-free, so if you really feel like you need more Nier after playing the game in April, you can always import a copy and find your way through. It comes out April 22, 2010 in Japan.
Nier is the tale of Nier, who heads off on a journey to cure his daughter Yonah of Black Scrawl. Thankfully, Nier’s an amazing warrior with fantastic magic skills and offensive abilities. The press release makes it sound like there could be some plot twists, as Nier’s quest will eventually lead him to discover more about his daughter and himself.
Nier‘s also one of those games you probably won’t want kids playing. The ESRB assigned it a Mature rating for blood, partial nudity, strong language, suggestive themes and violence. Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions cost $59.99.
