The Godfather The Game
Quite a few EA online games servers are going to be shutting down in the next few months. Surprisingly, the games that will be losing online functionality aren’t all that old. Aside from three Xbox games and a PlayStation 2 game, they’re all for current systems. The single player and local multiplayer modes will still work fine, but you won’t be able to play any of the following games online anymore, after certain dates.

The first blackout period starts March 16, 2010, and primarily focuses on seven select PC, PS3, PSP and Xbox 360 games:

  • Def Jam Icon (PS3, Xbox 360) – originally released March, 2007.
  • The Godfather: The Game (PS3, Xbox 360) – Xbox 360 version released September, 2006, PS3 version originally released March, 2007.
  • Lord of the Rings: Conquest (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) – originally released January, 2009.
  • Mercenaries 2: World in Flames (PC) – originally released September, 2008.
  • Need for Speed: Carbon (PSP) – originally released October, 2006.
  • Need for Speed: ProStreet (PSP) – originally released February, 2008.
  • The Simpsons Game (PS3, Xbox 360) – originally released October, 2007.

The second blackout period starts April 15, 2010 and applies to one PS3 game, one PS2 game and three Xbox 360 games.

  • Army of Two (PS3) – originally released March, 2008.
  • Battlefield 2: Modern Combat (Xbox) – originally released October, 2005.
  • Burnout 3: Takedown (PS2, Xbox) – originally released September, 2004.
  • Madden NFL 09 (Xbox) – originally released August, 2008.

The shutdown of the Lord of the Rings: Conquest online elements is quite a surprise. The game’s only about a year old. It only came out January 13, 2009. I guess it wasn’t as popular as EA expected it to be.

So if you own any of those games, make sure you appreciate the online multiplayer and services while they last! They won’t be around forever!
