In case you missed the old promotional disc for the GameCube that would let you get this powerful and cute Pokémon, Nintendo is finally giving the current generation a chance to pick up the legendary Jirachi.
On the off chance that you’re willing to be seen in a GameStop attempting to gather a rare Pokémon, the wireless distribution begins February 27, 2010, and will end on March 13, 2010, in US stores. Any Pokémon Pearl, Diamond or Platinum game will be able to take part. This is, conveniently, just before the release of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
If you are not content to merely have a Pokémon that hasn’t seen a stateside release in years, it gets even better. This specific Jirachi will unlock a new Pokéwalker course when transferred to HeartGold or SoulSilver.
The Pokéwalker is an accessory that essentially mimics the old Pocket Pikachu but allows you to transfer your critters back and forth from the accessory. Inside the accessory, you can walk around on different courses that then let you capture new and possibly rare Pokémon. And then you can move those you have caught back to your game card.
So, really, this is more like you’re getting the opportunity to catch rare Pokémon. Jirachi is just a bonus. Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver will release on March 14, 2010, the day after the promotion ends, so it’s not like you will have to wait for long to see exactly what those disbelieving stares from GameStop employees were worth.
