The NES will always have a special place in people’s hearts, which is why it’s unsurprising to hear that the rare game is still released for the system. The latest is Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril, an action game from Sivak games designed to bring back fond memories of those challenging NES games of yore. The $30 game made it’s debut today, February 23, 2010. Unfortunately, you may have some problems actually playing it.
It isn’t that Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril won’t be compatible with your NES. That awesome looking, distinctive cartridge at the right will work with any NES. It’s more a problem of availability. See, it’s already sold out! I guess a lot of people had a gaping whole in their heart that could only be filled by a 550 level retro game.
As for the story, it provides suitable motivation for playing. You are the Battle Kid, and have discovered that a highly destructive Supermech is being developed. You take it upon yourself to set forth and save the day, using special abilities to survive tons of enemies and trounce eight bosses. You can read all about it, if you manage to buy a copy of the game, in the included instruction manual.
If you really want a copy of Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril, I recommend you keep checking RetroZone. Perhaps it’ll be restocked. If it isn’t, you can always get an NES fix by splurging on another NES cartridge with a new, original game, like Airball, Glider or Ultimate Frogger Champion.
