More good news from Nintendo today, as fans of the Sin & Punishment shooting series don’t have to wait too long for the second entry. Sin & Punishment 2 will be released in North America as Sin & Punishment: Star Successor on June 7, 2010. Not a bad turnaround, considering it was released in Japan on October 29, 2009.
Like the previous Sin & Punishment, Sin & Punishment: Star Successor is an on-rails shooter and action game. Players choose to be either Isa or Kachi and then head off to attack enemies using either ranged weapons or standard hand-to-hand attacks. It features multiple control schemes, allowing users to use the remote and nunchuk, classic controller, zapper or a GameCube controller. It also allows users to upload scores to an online scoreboard using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. It’s a single player game, so don’t go expecting any multiplayer.
Pricing and an age rating haven’t been announced yet for Sin & Punishment: Star Successor, and we probably won’t be hearing about for a month or so. The Japanese version had a Cero B rating, for ages 12 and up, so expect an Everyone 10+ or Teen rating from the ESRB.
A little background, the first Sin & Punishment game was created by Treasure, published by Nintendo in November, 2000. It didn’t get a worldwide release until the Wii came out, and was then released in North America and Europe for the first time in 2007 as an import Virtual Console download. The success of the Virtual Console rerelease lead Treasure and Nintendo to team up again for Sin & Punishment: Star Successor.
You know, while you’re waiting you could always head to the Wii Shop Channel and pick up Sin & Punishment to prepare yourself. Check under the N64 or Import sections for it, and make sure you have 1,200 Nintendo Points ($12) available.
