Sony has added another developer to its gaming family. Today (March 2, 2010) Sony announced it has purchased Media Molecule, the company responsible for LittleBigPlanet.
LittleBigPlanet was one of the PS3′s biggest titles of 2008 and has won dozens of awards since. To date, Media Molecule continues to support LittleBigPlanet through downloadable costumes and themed level packs. The community also remains active by creating over two million levels since LBP‘s release.
LBP helped to usher in the idea of Play.Create.Share. which is a key component in ModNation Racers, another game developed by Sony Computer Entertainment San Diego and United Front Games.
Media Molecule is currently developing future titles that it hopes to share with us all in due time.
Sony did not disclose how much it paid to acquire Media Molecule.
