Power Gig: Rise of the SixString

A game is finally coming out that will let actual guitar players leave so-called “Guitar Heroes” weeping, and it’s called Power Gig: Rise of the SixString. SixString, as in it’s played with an actual, six-string electric guitar. Those who thought Guitar Hero and Rock Band were difficult should probably turn away.

Seven45′s developed Power Gig: Rise of the SixString to work with a peripheral that isn’t just a peripheral. Yes, you can plug it into your PS3 or Xbox 360 to play the game, but you can also connect it to an amp and play it like you would any other electric guitar. Nice.

As for the game itself, it sounds pretty promising. There’ll be the standard beat and single note matching, which gamers will recognize from other music games, but there will also be a chord play mode. Where you play chords, instead of just picking at strings and particular notes. Even more interesting is the fact that you’ll eventually start playing actual chords, which would let you play songs on the guitar in real life, and not just in some video game.

A price hasn’t been set for the Power Gig: Rise of the SixString game and guitar yet, but the game doesn’t come out until Fall 2010 so that isn’t too unexpected. Seven45 is appearing at the 2010 Game Developer’s Conference (March 9-13, 2010) and bringing Power Gig: Rise of the SixString, so perhaps we’ll hear more about the it over the next few days.
