GDC 2010 attendees recently were able to try PlayStation Move for themselves. Sony’s take on the next step in motion controlled gaming looks promising in some respects, but Lionhead Studios’ Peter Molyneux isn’t so excited about PlayStation Move.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Molyneux explained why he personally feels PlayStation Move isn’t as groundbreaking as Microsoft’s Natal.

“We’re not really surprised, are we? I mean at E3 last year we saw they were having a wand, and that’s kind of what I expected. It looks like they’ve taken a step forward but it’s not as big a step as something like Natal, I don’t think. This is purely me talking personally, but I think maybe it’s slightly more a device for the core than it is for the casual market, because I think it’s quite precise.”

Overall Molyneux feels it’s up to game designers to really show what PlayStation Move is made of. He sees hardware such as PlayStation Move and Natal challenging to game designers because they have to substitute buttons for body movements and gestures. Designers will eventually tap the true potential of these products but Molyneux thinks that won’t happen until the second wave of titles are released.
