If you thought the $2,400 PS3 was outrageous, you’re going to love this. PS3 ripoff’s have been perpetrated by Rent-A-Center, and Geek Squad. We now would like to add Virgin Digital Help to the list.
MaxConsole contacted Virgin Digital Help seeking advice with a very common PS3 problem. If you have your PS3 hooked up to a HDTV via HDMI, you must switch the PS3′s video settings to match the input. The PS3 only remembers the last used video setting which means if you move the PS3 to a SDTV, you won’t get a picture. The solution is simple. Just hold down the PS3′s power button until it resets. It will revert to a video connection through a composite input. That’s all you need to do and it didn’t cost you a dime. Virgin Digital Help would have charged you up to $130 for that information.
The entire chat log is posted on MaxConsole’s site. The gist of it is that Virgin Digital Help offered two tiers of service. The first is a 30 minute pay as you go support package for the equivalent of $36. If that isn’t enough time, you can buy more support time.
The kicker is Virgin’s Home Visit package. This is when someone comes to your house and fixes the problem for you. The cost is approximately $130 for the first hour and $43 for every additional 30 minutes. Can you say rip off?
