E3 2010: The three creepiest things at E3

While most of the stuff on display at E3 2010 was rather cool in one respect tor another, there were three things I saw today (June 15, 2010) on the exhibit floor that were creepy.

And not the good creepy. Not the, “something going bump in the night” or “someone might suddenly jump out at you” kind of creepy. More along the lines of things that probably should not exist and the fact that they do creeps me out.

In no particular order…

cookiemonster and elmo wiimote covers

Fuzzy Elmo and Cookie Monster WiiMote covers

Meant to entice your wee one into playing Wii games (I suggest a DS first to help develop fine motor controls), these fuzzy covers have googlie eyes and furry bodies. Sure, they might look warm and cozy but gripping Elmo in your first is too creepy for me. (Although that might reflect the death grip some people might want to put on him/her/it).

These were on display to promote Sesame Street Counting Carnival and Elmo’s A-to-Z Adventure for DS.

wwe wrestling e3 2010 display

WWE All Stars Display

There was a massive display that features two WWE wrestlers and one of them – John Cena – moved. Yes, his arm actually articulated, by the elbow, back and forth. Not in a way that the elbow normally moves. Just back and forth across his face.

I’m sure that the wrestler does that in some way and it’s super cool but the pseudo life-like-ish-ness of the art and the awkwardly moving arm just gave me the oogies. Thanks THQ?

gear clean green goo e3 2010

Cyber Clean

This green goo quickly went from, “Ah, cool!” to, “Eh, Ew!” It’s that slimy non-Playdough stuff that is strangely sticky and you are supposed to use to to press into your keyboard or game controller or whatever and pull out bits of grodey dirt, dust, hair and grime. And it stays in there. I’m sure they have a way to clean it but I didn’t want to stick around after touching this weird ooze. Even worse, they were selling it for $5 per bag at E3 2010. Apparently they didn’t get the “You’re supposed to give stuff away at E3″ memo.

  1. I find it incredibly disturbing that you can actually SEE The clumps of dirt and stuff in the Cyber Clean goop in the picture. Ick

  2. The Rock's raising eyebrow was funnier than Cena's moving arm.

  3. I luld…

  4. The plush baby controller for Babysitting Mama, hands-on the creepiest, non-living thing at E3. Pregnant Alma was the creepiest living thing I saw at E3.

  5. I didn't think it was all that creepy. It sort-of looked exactly like the babies on screen.

… It was a bit creepy when it started crying though.

It was up in Majesco's conference room on the second floor of the conventionc enter. Not too far from Activision's room if I remember right.

  6. The rock's eye was funnier. The moving arm was creepier.

  7. Plush baby controller? I didn't see that. That would surly go on the list. Cree-e-e-e-py.
