While I didn’t get to go hands-on with Ys I & II Chronicles for the PSP during my meeting with XSEED at E3, I did get to watch lots of gameplay footage and hear all about the portable version of Ys I & II Complete. Ys I & II Chronicles contains both Ys I and Ys II, and follows the adventures of Adol Christin as he sets off to find the Books of Ys and reach the Ys continent.
Ys I & II Chronicles is displayed in widescreen and designed to please fans of the series with a totally customizable experience to optimize your gameplay. For example, there are two sets of character portraits. If you don’t like one art style, you can switch to the other. There are also two soundtracks to pick from. You can have the original Ys, or the remastered orchestral arrangement. If that isn’t enough, you can also customize the control scheme.
There was one more interesting tidbit I learned from the meeting. Battles are back to the old-school Ys roots in Ys I & II Chronicles. Adol fights his enemies just by the player ramming him into them.
XSEED should be bringing Ys I & II Chronicles goodness to PSP owners in January 2011. So if you need a nostalgic look back at two classic action RPGs, keep an eye open for news on it throughout the year.
