A lot of stuff goes down at any E3. However, there are always a few events that are talked about throughout the expo (and they are not necessarily newsworthy).

Here’s a look at five of the more memorable and chatted about happenings at E3 2010.

Everyone Gets an Xbox 360 Slim (Except You)

Right out of the gate, the day E3 semi-officially started (June 14, 2010), Microsoft pulled an Oprah and gave everyone at its invite-only E3 2010 press conference an Xbox 360 slim. Sure, you didn’t get one (and neither did anyone at Gamertell) but the fact that it happened was mentioned every moment by at least one person attending E3 2010.

Everything About the Nintendo 3DS

Just everything about it was memorable, even though it was the shortest hands-on demo ever. The tease at the press conference was memorable (as a, “Hey, why didn’t we get a 3DS!?” moment). Those ladies walking on to the stage was memorable. The 2 minutes we got to touch it and gawk at it was memorable. And 2 minutes with the 3D device was incentive enough for countless expo attendees to wait in line for 3 hours. And when you saw it in its glasses-free 3D glory, it was worth every minute. The fact that Sony had to hand out glasses for its press conference (that immediately followed Nintnedo’s) made it even more pointed.

Kevin Butler Takes the Stage (And Attention)

Well after a semi-public rejection of Kevin Butler’s appearance (actor Jerry Lambert) at the Sony E3 2010 press conference, Butler came onto stage any way. Sure, it was simply to re-energize the audience with an amusing war cry and was pretty meaningless in terms of promotion for any Sony product but it was still hilarious. And that archer billboard of Butler greeting everyone at E3 2010? Genius.

Ah, It’s Sweet Tooth

Chalk up another memorable moment for Sony. Sweet Tooth the killer clown from Twisted Metal drives onto the stage at the end of the Sony E3 2010 press conference. Preceding it was a teaser video with real actors, making Sweet Tooth “real.” (My favorite and probably one of the most awkward moments of E3 was not the awesome video, not the on-stage drive-by but how Sweet Tooth was left on stage for way too long at the end of the press event and had to sulk off stage in the dark after it ended and as the audience left.)

Spock!

Oh, yeah. He was there. Leonard Nimoy attended E3 2010 to promote a video game. And it’s not even a Star Trek game. It was for movie karaoke game Yoostar 2 coming late 2010 to PS3 and Xbox 360 (using the Xbox Kinect and PlayStation Move to out you in the game). Simultaneously weird and amazing to fans, any personal time with Nimoy is a moment to celebrate.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Miyamoto Cannot Play His Own Game: At the Nintendo E3 2010 press conference, Shigeru Miyamoto had trouble with his own game (The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword) and pulled a Steve Jobs by blaming it on WiFi interference, asking everyone to turn off their cell phones (followed by immediate chuckles from the audience.
  • Dancers for Nothing: Oh, those silly artistic French. Sony’s persona Butler summed it up referring to Cirque de Soliel at the Microsoft E3 2010 press conference: “Am I crazy, or did I just see 100 French acrobats prancing around an arena the other night?” Ubisoft also pulled a dance-off moment at its E3 2010 press conference by ending with the Michael Jackson backup dancers throwing down some moves for way too long to promote the enigmatic Michael Jackson game.
