How much will the 3DS cost? Nintendo isn’t telling anyone right now, but it is dropping hints. Nintendo is a company that has tried to win over the public through gameplay and not graphics. In recent years, Nintendo’s products the cheapest in comparison to its competitors. The DSi and DSi XL continues to hover around the same price point as the PSP and PSPgo, but one would argue the DSi is a better value. With the 3DS’s new technology, the price gap could get reasonably larger.
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata has made one thing clear about the Nintendo 3DS price.
“In terms of the production costs, it will cost more than the costs for the Nintendo DS today. Having said that, we believe we will produce enough value worthy of the production cost. We do not think we have to sell the products below cost,” said Iwata to Games Beat.
Currently Nintendo’s most expensive handheld is the DSi XL. It sells for $189.99. It’s assumed the 3DS costs more to manufacture than a DSi XL. If that’s the case, we’re looking at a minimum 3DS price of around $200 if Nintendo doesn’t sell it below its cost.
I’m still on board with the 3DS. What about you?
