Immortal LOvers

Title: Immortal Lovers
Price: $19.95
System(s): Windows PC
Release Date: July 5, 2010
Publisher (Developer): Legacy Interactive (Legacy Interactive)
ESRB Rating: N/A
Pros: Nice puzzle games, no timer or penalty for guessing wrong, puzzles are based on story elements not just random.
Cons: some puzzles very difficult or frustrating, music is annoying, not very long for the price of the game.
Overall Score: one thumb up on thumb sideways, 86 out of 100, B, * * * ½ out of 5.

Valerie hates family vacations because she is a typical bratty, troubled, teenager. When she decides to run off and venture in the woods all by herself, she finds a mysterious and attractive man who saves her from a wolf attack. She spends the rest of her vacation searching for him and trying to figure out his story.

That about sums up this hidden puzzle adventure game. As you play the various puzzles, you get to see the whole story of what happens to Valerie and the mysterious man, as told through Valerie’s eyes.

Teen Angst at Its Finest

The games follows the story of Valerie and her encounters with the stranger. As you hear the story you do different puzzles, most of them being hidden item or “what’s wrong with this picture?” type puzzles. There are also puzzles triggered by events. For example, Valerie is incredibly clumsy and pretty much breaks everything she touches so you have to put a lot of things back together or find lost pieces.

You find a rose in the very first puzzle that gives you a location of a hidden item, or help you figure out the particular puzzle. You can use it as much as you want, though it takes time for it to charge up after you use it. There are no time limits to the puzzles and no penalties for clicking on an incorrect piece.

Also, if you are having trouble with one of the mini games you can choose to skip it and the game will continue on as if you had solved it. The only ones I had to skip were sliding tile puzzles because they were very complex and because I hate those type of puzzles. There are a couple puzzles you can’t skip towards the end because they are important to the plot.

It’s nice that there are a variety of different puzzles to do, as much as I like to do hidden item puzzles, it’s also nice to branch off to others, too. I also like that they incorporated the puzzles into details from the story. At one point she needed to find all the pieces of this watch she dropped or needed to find several herbs in the woods. Some hidden object games just kind of throw you into a puzzle that has nothing to do with the story.

There were, however, several puzzles that were more tedious than fun. There is a point where Valerie is lost in the woods and is using her cell phone as a compass to get out. However she can’t find a signal so you have to randomly click on different spots in the woods to find a good signal strength. There are no hints of any kind that tell you you are close to the right spot, you just have to keep clicking till you find the spot.

You might think that the fact the game has no time limits or penalties makes it easy, but most of the time it is very hard to find objects because they are hidden so well. So it really cancels each other out, because if there were a time limit, you would never be able to find everything in time.

The music in the game is very dark and brooding. I assume they were going for a sort of suspenseful effect. The only problem is the music lasts the entire game and can get very tiring, it may even put you to sleep. The story itself is also a tad predictable but there is a twist at the end.

Worst Family Vacation Ever

If you are a fan of Twilight and Vampire Diaries then you will love this game. I found it to be a fair combination of both. I am not really a fan of either of those but I enjoyed the puzzles and layout of the game anyway.

The game is not very long, I would say it takes only a few hours to beat. It might have a good replay value if you wait a while before playing it again as the puzzles don’t change.
