First there was a zombie on your lawn, and soon they’ll be in your Xbox 360. PopCap has announced that Plants vs. Zombies will sow its seeds on Xbox LIVE Arcade in early September 2010. It’ll cost you a cool 1200 Microsoft Points (or $15.00).
If you already have some form of PvZ (either on your computer or iPhone), you may wonder why you need to buy another version of the same game. Well, this is the new and improved Plants vs. Zombies, filled with lots of new features. These include:
A total of seven game modes, including two new multiplayer modes: Co-Op and Vs. Mode
12 achievements and 21 mini-games — more than any other adaptation, and including the exclusive Heavy Weapon-inspired mini-game
A goofy new way to track and share progress online, where players create their own custom house and cruise down the street to see their friends’ cribs!
The highest resolution of any Plants vs. Zombies adaptation to date at 1920 x 1080
All 50 levels of the original Adventure mode along with Puzzle, Survival, and Zen Garden
On my laptop I’ve played through Adventure mode about five times (and thus have the gold trophy), unlocked every garden, collected different kinds of plants for those gardens, unlocked every mini-game and puzzle. As fun as the game has been, playing through the same Adventure mode multiple times does get old after a while. I look forward to these new features, especially multiplayer.
I wonder though, if this version will allow you to hop around the various levels in Adventure mode. One of the very, very few things I didn’t like about the game was that you couldn’t choose to replay a particular level — you’d have to play the whole game from the beginning to get back to that level, which I think is silly.
If for some reason you don’t use Xbox LIVE and still want to play the upgraded PvZ, have no fear. PopCap will release a boxed version of the game for the Xbox 360. Furthermore, they’ll also release a “Game of the Year” version (of vanilla PvZ) for the PC/Mac, a limited number of which will come with a zombie figurine. Note the “limited number” clause in that sentence. Both will cost $19.99.
