iPad Space Invaders HD game provides arcade cabinet multiplayer experience

Square Enix has decided that it’s time to make one of the most amazing technological advances a bit more retro-chic, with the iPad release of Space Invaders HD. For $4.99 you can replicate the classic arcade cabinet experience. It looks practically identical to the original game, right down to the on-screen joystick and shot button.

Adding to the experience is the fact that the two player multiplayer is played the exact same it was when the game originally appeared in arcades. In the iPad version of Space Invaders HD, the iPad is ideally placed on a flat surface and one player is at each end of the device to take part in alien eradication.

There’s also some extra features to highlight Space Invaders‘ history and charm. You can choose four different display modes to change the appearance, like making everything monochromatic. You can also access a gallery of original 1978 Space Invaders designs and promotional materials.

No matter where you live, Space Invaders HD is available. Plus, it’s available in English, Spanish, Japanese, German, French and Italian – not that it really matters. You don’t really need to read direct a ship and fire bullets at invading aliens.
