The original Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling Together was released on the SNES in Japan in 1995, but didn’t see a US release until the 1997 PlayStation remake was released in 1998 by Atlus. It takes place after all of the other Tactics Ogre games released in North America, and follows the journey and trials of Denim Powell, his sister Kachua and his friend Vice. Depending on the choices made throughout the game, the story would change and different characters could be allies or enemies.
Of course, this being a remake, there will be some substantial changes. You can have more characters in battle, change your view of the battlefield, select new character classes and learn new skills for characters. The original art director, Hiroshi Minagawa, is returning, so it should still look familiar, even if it feels a bit different and the graphics are enhanced and revitalized.
Normally, I’d be all calling for a new game and not a remake, but I’m okay with Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. It has been so long since a Tactics Ogre game has been released, and a remake of one of the original games for a modern system seems like the best way to reintroduce a series that many people might not be familiar with. Especially since the original Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together was difficult to find.
Editor’s Note: The story was updated at 10:36pm CST on July 21, 2010 after Square Enix announced the game for the US. A link to the US website was also added.
