Capcom has laid out some solid details on the release date and price of Dead Rising: Case Zero. Similar to what we wrote earlier on the subject, Case Zero will cost 400 MS points ($5) on XBLA. We will finally be able to download this prequel/demo on August 31, 2010. Sadly, Case Zero will not be making an appearance on the PlayStation Network.
In a gesture of kindness or fear of backlash, Dead Rising‘s producer, and head of research & development for Capcom Keiji Inafune, said the company would not be making any money from Case Zero. Speaking at Comic-Con, Inafune explained why he went against Capcom’s wishes to release the game at a higher price.
Inafune felt the team had priorities other than making a buck. It wanted to give fans a chance to understand the events of Dead Rising 2 while providing them with a simple way to try out the game.
Case Zero can be played for free, but the entire game will only be unlocked if you purchase it. Your $5 will also give you the option of bringing all your outfits, skills and other bonuses unique to your character to the full retail game.
Dead Rising 2 is coming out on September 28, 2010 for Xbox 360, PC and PS3.
