Green Lantern Rise of the Manhunters game posterBrace yourself for a huge surprise. Ready? There’s going to be a Green Lantern game released to coincide with the movie. Yeah, I know – I lied. Everyone knew there’d be a Green Lantern game to go with the movie! So when the Green Lantern movie comes out in Summer 2011, you can pick up Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters for your DS, PS3, Wii or Xbox 360 to go with it.

As you can probably guess, the events in Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters will follow along with the events of the Green Lantern movie. Hal Jordan has just been selected to join the Green Lantern Corps, and will have to help protect Earth and all its people from devious and menacing individuals. As with most comic-movie games, it will also supposedly cover some events from the original comic book series as well.

Typically, video games based on movies stink. We’ve seen it happen many times before. I think we can already call the DS version a lost cause, since the developer, Griptonite Games, is responsible for recent DS games like Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Shrek Forever After, Charm Girls Club: My Perfect Prom and Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: Cosmic Destruction. There may be hope for the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 versions though! Double Helix Games is working on all three, and it made Silent Hill: Homecoming and is working on Front Mission Evolved.
