Tales of the Abyss PS2Namco Bandai may torture gamers when it comes to releasing entries in the Tales RPG series outside of Japan, but perhaps Bandai Entertainment can help ease that pain. At the Bandai Entertainment Industry Panel held today (July 23, 2010) at Comic-Con International 2010, a North American release of the Tales of the Abyss anime series was announced.

Tales of the Abyss, considered by many to be one of the strongest entries in the Tales series, was originally released on the PS2 in 2006 in North America. The 26 episode anime series by Sunrise follows almost all the events of the games. Pretty good, consider the game could probably take someone around 30 hours to complete. It follows the adventures of the sheltered Luke Fon Fabre, who is accidentally teleported, along with an intruding woman named Tear, out of his secure home and to some place on the other side of the world.

The Tales of the Abyss anime is only one of many Tales of the Abyss adapations. It’s also been used as the inspiration for three manga series, called Tales of the Abyss, Tales of the Abyss: Senketsu no Ash and Tales of the Abyss: Tsuioku no Jade. Perhaps if the anime does well, Bandai will look into releasing some of the manga series in the US.
