We normally don’t get major game announcements over the the weekend. But with Comic-Con going in in San Diego right now, anything is possible. Case in point, two new fighters for PS3 and Xbox 360 have been announced at the show. Capcom and Namco have teamed up to create Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter. The “X” stands for cross.

The titles were announced during the Street Fighter IV and Beyond panel. The audience was treated to a teaser trailer featuring Ryu from Street Fighter taking on Jin from Tekken. Street Fighter X Tekken is apparently a 2D fighter that has a control scheme and art direction similar to that of Street Fighter IV. It also incorporates a tag system that has been popular in games such as Marvel vs. Capcom and Tekken Tag Tournament. Characters will also be able to execute super moves.

The second game announced, Tekken X Street Fighter, is said be a 3D fighter. And by 3D I mean fighting in a 3D arena, not 3D graphics (although that could be a possibility). Although its Tekken influenced gameplay style hasn’t been confirmed, we would imagine it would have to differentiate itself enough from Street Fighter X Tekken. Tekken X Street Fighter is being developed at Namco’s studios.

Both games are early in development and won’t be out anytime soon.

Update: We’ve added the trailer below.
