Master Chief We all thought the story of Master Chief would come to an end in Halo 3. Perhaps that was Bungie’s point of view as it knew it would not be making any Halo sequels after Halo 3. Now that 343 Industries is taking over the Halo franchise, it’s first order of business is to bring Master Chief back into the limelight.

Speaking during a panel at Comic-Con, 343 Industries creative director, Frank O’Connor announced to fans Master Chief’s journey will continue.

“At the end of Halo 3, and cover your ears if you haven’t played it, Master Chief is in cryosleep. Cortana has sent a rescue signal, and they are orbiting a strange world,” O’Connor said. “We’d have to be the world’s biggest assholes to not follow through on his story.”

O’Connor did not clarify how Master Chief would return. Gamers would be ecstatic if 343 Industries created a Halo 4 starring everyone’s favorite Spartan. However, with more and more videogames taking the leap to comic books and animated films, it’s possible Master Chief’s next story will be passive.

The next game in the franchise, Halo: Reach, comes out on September 14, 2010. It serves as a prequel to the original Halo and is the last game in the series to be developed by Bungie.
