Today we bid farewell to beloved gaming parody. PopCap has decided to remove the Dancing Zombie from the list of undead adversaries on Plants vs. Zombies. The Dancing Zombie drew obvious parallels to the late “King of Pop” Michael Jackson and his persona from his “Thriller” music video. In his place, PopCap has created a disco zombie complete with platform shoes and an afro.
PopCap admitted to MTV Multiplayer that it was contacted by Michael Jackson’s estate who felt the dancing zombie shared too many similarities with Jackson. PopCap felt it would be better for business if it replaced the Dancing Zombie with something else. PopCap will not use the Dancing Zombie in any PvZ iteration moving forward.
Plants vs. Zombies received an update a couple days ago that added additional achievements to the game. Perhaps it was also this update that swapped out the dancing zombie. This update is also causing the game to crash on some iPhone 4′s. PopCap is aware of this situation and will have a fix ready within the next couple days.
PvZ is also coming to XBLA in September 2010 for 1200 MS points. There’s also the mysterious PvZ announcement dated for August 2, 2010. We can’t wait to find out what this is all about, but it probably has something to do with San Francisco.
