Hyperkin’s new dancing pad, called the DDRGame Tough Non-stick Dance Platform, is designed for use with the Dance Dance Revolution games but it also works on other dancing games.

It works on all systems except for Xbox 360 and uses high grade EVA technology.

Dance The Night Away

I opened the box and unfolded the dance pad and right away noticed a difference in the quality of this pad. For one thing, it is thicker then the main dance pad that came with DDR . The thickness of it made it sit flat on the ground and stay that way versus the original DDR dance pad which had corners that would curl up and cause it to stick up in the air. The pad is pretty thick but still flexible enough to be folded up and easily put away.

Because the pad stays flat on the ground, it also stays in place. I used to pad with DDRMax for the PS2. I played several rounds of the game and not once did the pad slide or slip around on the floor. This makes the game play much easier since you don’t have to worry about sliding around on the floor and losing your footing.

I also thought that the pad felt very soft on my feet. I played the game barefoot and I could feel the little bumps on the arrow keys. By including these little bumps on the pad it makes your feet feel more comfortable which will allow you play longer.

Also the pad doesn’t make that annoying crunching sound, you know the one that sounds like someone is opening up a hard candy wrapper, that the other pads make when you step on it. It is still made with that same material as the other pads (the one that makes that cellophane crunch noise) but because of the padding on top, the crunching noise is mainly covered up. You may hear it a little, especially when folding the pad up, but it is much less.

You Can Sleep On It (If You Want)

The pad has the four arrow keys for the game, and also has four corners with the ABXY buttons used for Xbox and Gamecube system, and over the letters are the four shapes used for the various Playstation controllers.

The one downside to the pad is that it won’t work on the Xbox 360, which means if you sold your original Xbox long ago and still play DDR, you have to find a new system to play it on. Also the only way to get it to play on the PS3 is to get a special adapter which, I think, should have been included with the pad but didn’t.

Other than that, the only real complaint I have about the pad is that it took me a long time to remember how to fold it up again. The pad can be re-folded but it’s hard to determine where to fold it once it’s open, since it was designed to stay flat when you unfold it.

An Excuse to Exercise (Again)

The best part about this pad is that forced me to break out the game and play it again. It really is a good work out and the pad motivates you to play it again.

The $69.99 price tag might deter some people from picking it up but it really is worth it since the pad never rolls up and never slips. Plus hardcore fans will like how soft and comfortable the pad is to stand on and the little bumps on the controller claim to actually soothe your aching feet.
