XGaming announced today (July 28, 2010) that its arcade style X-Arcade Solo Joystick is now available.

Retailing for $99.95, this hefty controller comes with a lifetime warranty and works with any game system including Windows PC, Mac and Linux PC. It can ship with an adapter of your choice so it is ready to play with certain systems for the base price or, for $10 more, adapters to play with the Xbox 360 and PS2 or all three Playstation models. If you want to use it for more than one system, consoles do require an appropriate adapter ($7.95 to $19.95 each, depending on the system).

The Solo Joystick is a whole, cabinet-quality case housing one joystick and nine buttons (to cover all those necessary combos) and uses a USB PCB as the base output plug. Like all X-Arcade sticks, the buttons are programmable but this controller is meant for one player.

I’ve reviewed a couple of the X-Arcade controllers and these are as hefty, rugged and arcade-like as promised. All of the buttons are actual arcade machine buttons with that rounded, clickity feel you expect from a fresh arcade cabinet even with excessive button mashing (and pounding and smashing). Likewise, the joystick can take a ton of punishment.

The controller also works well with MAME (which includes X-Arcade products as one of the available menu options) and other emulators. These are great for fighting games and most older style games but the arcade style on-off mechanisms means they are not very good for racing games.
