Codemasters, the European publisher of Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO), will be giving away free store points from the game at Gamescom 2010. LOTRO will be adopting a free-to-play system (F2P) in the fall, as an addition to its existing monthly and lifetime subscription models. Gamescom will be from August 18-22, 2010 in Cologne, Germany.
Simply stop by their booth, sign up for LOTRO, and get 10 € worth of LOTRO store points. These points can be spent in LOTRO‘s in-game store. It’s unknown though, as to whether Codemasters will also give free store points to existing subscribers but I doubt it since the goal is to hook new people in the game.
Currently, there is no word as to whether LOTRO‘s American publisher (and developer) Turbine has any plans for a similar promotion. Incidentally, they will be at Penny Arcade Expo 2010 (AKA PAX Prime), so that would be the perfect place to do so.
