I bought the game a couple of months back and entered the code that came with the game. Then I found out I would have to wait until July 28, 2010, to download it. So yesterday I remembered that and I knew I already had my brand new episode waiting for me to download it but, after clicking on the icon, a weird message popped up saying I had to pay 500 points.
Apparently the same happened to thousands of people around the world because after searching a little in the Alan Wake forums I found out that there was an error with the codes. Anybody who redeeemed the code before July 28, 2010, is stuck with a cardboard bookmark, because all those codes are now useless.
According to the forum every person in that situation will get a new code via email. Microsoft has already started sending out the codes but I have yet to see mine.
I know Microsoft and Remedy are good for it and I’m sure that my code is coming. It was a freebie to begin with so maybe it’s not that big a deal. But really, guys, was it that hard to keep track of the codes?
