Several days ago, Microsoft revealed the true price of Kinect and a Xbox 360 S bundle that would be accompanying it. This particular model will have 4GB of internal flash memory and an expansion slot that can house a hard drive. Though Microsoft have not announced whether it will sell hard drives for the Xbox 360 S separately, a box photo of the 4G Xbox 360 S seems to have beat Microsoft to the punch.
Gamerzines published a photo that is said to have been released by Microsoft yesterday (July 29, 2010) afternoon. The box lists accessories for the Xbox 360 S including a 250GB hard drive with an asterisk next to it. At the bottom of the photo, the asterisk is defined as “sold separately.” The two essential pieces of information we don’t know are price and availability of the hard drive. The standalone 4GB Xbox 360 S will arrive on November 3, while the Kinect bundle will be on shelves the next day. We can only assume the hard drive will be released sometime within that window. A 250GB hard drive for the original Xbox 360 currently sells at retail for $129.99. If this new hard drive is the same price, the Kinect bundle will still cost less than buying Kinect and a 250GB Xbox 360 separately.
You don’t need a hard drive with the new Xbox 360 S. You can buy a 16GB flash drive and use that to store all the data on your console instead.
