Intellivision Lives! on the DS thanks to Virtual Play

The Intellivision Lives! DS game is actually going to be released! Way back in 2005, Intellivision Lives! for the DS was shown off at E3 in the hopes of finding a publisher. Some showed interest, but ultimately decided against it because they didn’t think it would be profitable. Now Virtual Play has stepped up and said it will do it, so we’ll see the compilation game in September, 2010. Just in time for the 30th anniversary of the Intellivision console!

Intellivision Lives! is designed to perfectly mimic the unique Intellivision control scheme on the DS. See, the Intellivision had these control pads, and for each game you could slip a sheet onto the pad which would then show which buttons to push for controls. The 12 button control pad and sheets will be recreated on the touch screen, sp people can play over 60 Intellivision games. So far, Astrosmash, Shark! Shark! and Thin Ice are confirmed as being among the 60 games on the cartridge. Also, multiplayer games will support local wireless play.

There’s also a way to see and try Intellivision Lives! out before it launches. The 11th Classic Gaming Expo is being held at the Tropicana in Las Vegas this weekend (July 31-August 1, 2010). Check around the Intellivision Productions booth, as Intellivision Lives! should be there.
