For many years the big names of the sports world, like Reggie Jackson, Broadway Joe Namath, Big Joe Montana and the mighty Jerry Rice, have entered the Halls of Fame for their outstanding feats in their respective sports. Now, heroes of a different kind are being given the same treatment when the International Video Game Hall of Fame (IVGHF) conducts its first induction ceremony on August 5, 2010.
The International Video Game Hall of Fame, located on Ottumwa, Iowa (US), is throwing a four day celebration in honor of its first 29 inductees, which include video game personalities Shigeru Miyamoto, Ralph Baer, Nolan Bushnell, Donkey Kong player extraordinaire Billy Mitchell, Johnathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel and even the video game Pac-Man. The celebration, dubbed The Big Bang, will also feature LAN parties, concerts and video game tournaments.
The organizers are hoping to attract tourists and video game fans from around the world so that they can gather funds and create a big interactive museum. The goal of the museum is to house the history of video games up to this day, as well as thousands of coin-op arcade machines and video game systems.
The museum sounds like an awesome idea and all those arcade machines together will surely be a sight to see. The Big Bang is being held from August 5, 2010, to August 8, 2010, so if you’re near Ottumwa, be sure to drop by and join the party.
