The Star Wars: The Old Republic blog has announced four new playable species for the highly anticipated MMO. These species are non-human (though humanoid in appearance), and apparently each of these species are restricted to one particular class. They are the Sith Pureblood, Miraluka, Mirialans, and Zabraks. Here’s a little description of each species. Scroll down below for images.
So far, there are eight standard classes in SWTOR, four for each side. If you want to be on the good guy team, you can play as a Trooper, Smuggler, Jedi Knight, or Jedi Consular. If you want to be bad to the bone, you can play as a Bounty Hunter, Sith Warrior, Imperial Agent, or Sith Inquisitor. Each class then splits into two advanced classes, each containing its own skillset in addition to the ones that come with the standard class. BioWare hasn’t yet gone into great detail as to what the advanced classes will be for each standard class.
Sith Pureblood, as the name suggests, are the original members of the Sith race and can become Sith Warriors. The Miraluka strongly resemble humans except they’re sightless. They’re strong with the Force, and can become Jedi Knights. The green-skinned Mirialans have cool facial tattoos and can become Jedi Consulars. Finally, the Zabraks are slaves of the Sith Empire, but some can grow up to become Sith Inquisitors. Judging from the image, Darth Maul was a Zabrak.
I haven’t read any Star Wars novels that explore beyond the movie sextet’s universe except for The Courtship of Princess Leia and Heir to the Empire (and that was ages ago), so I don’t know if these species appear in the books, or if they’re a BioWare creation. They do sound pretty cool. It’s a shame though, that if you choose to play as any of these species you’re limited to playing a certain class. Judging from the comments in the post people aren’t too crazy about that. We can only hope that they change this down the line.
This list is apparently not complete, so stay tuned as more playable species will be added in the future.
