Sony attended Gamescom 2010 this year, and brought along with them Heroes on the Move, a crossover action game starring characters from Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper. While it won’t be officially available until Spring 2011 in Japan, North America and Europe, we now know exactly how this PlayStation Move PS3 game will work.
In Heroes on the Move, aliens are stealing pieces from the worlds of the three games mentioned above. In the process, they also steal the heroes Jak, Daxter, Sly, Bentley, Ratchet and Clank. The aliens then pit our heroes against each other, which leads all of them to realize they must work together to beat each challenge so they can save all the worlds. You do this with the Move motion controls. I’m guessing that it may feel a little like playing the Death Jr.: Root of Evil or Super Mario Galaxy Wii games.
Players will be able to play as any of the six characters, each with their own abilities. So different challenges may be easier if you choose a character with a complementary skill set. You can also call upon a friend to help out, with multiplayer co-op. Each challenge takes place in familiar places taken from Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper, so you should feel right at home. Sony didn’t mention in the press release if there will be online multiplayer, but the latest news does reveal an online leaderboard so you can check how well you’re doing compared to others.
Once again, though it’s somewhat subtle, Heroes on the Move continues the trend of somehow working the name of the peripheral/system into a motion control game. The Wii is quite guilty of this – Wii Sports, We Ski, Phantom Brave: We Meet Again and Mario Kart Wii are pretty good examples. Xbox 360′s Kinect is also following this trend too, with games like Kinect Adventures, Kinect Sports and the cringe-worthy Kinectimals.
