Spider-Man games have fallen on hard times recently, but Shattered Dimensions could breathe new life into Activision’s well-worn franchise. Getting to play as four separate Spider-Men is intriguing and one of the reasons why expectations for this Beenox offering are running high. Beenox creative director Thomas Wilson is so enamored with the 2099 and Noir wallcrawlers, he’d like to do an entire game on one of them.

Wilson told Joystiq he would love to focus on those Spideys because they’re new and unique. He quickly added that whatever they do obviously has to be approved by Activision. I suspect Activision’s response will have a lot to do with how well Shattered Dimensions sells.

This latest take on the webslinger has him trying to collect pieces of a powerful artifact that has splintered across four dimensions. Each has its own unique version of Spider-Man, and players will have to use Noir, Spider-Man 2099, Amazing and Ultimate Spider-Man to save the day. The game will be available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii September 7, 2010.
