We now have one less outlet to purchase Xbox Live Arcade game codes from. Amazon recently announced it will no longer be selling codes for Xbox Live Arcade games. Amazon did not give a reason for the sudden end of this service, but the online retailer will continue to sell Microsoft Points.
Currently Amazon only sells Microsoft Points in increments of 1600 or 4000. You have the option of selecting either an online code redeemable through Xbox Live, or a physical card. A 1600 point code will cost $20 and the 1600 point code will cost $50. However, if you choose to buy the actual cards, the price drops to $16.54 and $47.54 respectively. The lower price is most likely issued to offset shipping costs. Xbox Live subscriptions will still be available for purchase through Amazon.
There’s still an additional option if you don’t want to buy more Microsoft Points than you need. Last week we told you about GameStop’s Downloadable Content Centers. These centers are set up in every GameStop in the United States. It allows you to purchase games and DLC from Xbox Live without using Microsoft Points. GameStop’s DLC Centers accepts payments in the form of cash, credit, debit or trade credits. This way you won’t have an odd number of Microsoft Points sitting in your account with nowhere to go.
