UK defense secretary Liam Fox is encouraging UK retail outlets to ban Medal of Honor. Fox released a statement explaining reasons behind his proposed boycott.
“At the hands of the Taliban, children have lost fathers and wives have lost husbands,” Fox said. “It’s shocking that someone would think it acceptable to recreate the acts of the Taliban against British soldiers.
Though it’s unlikely Fox has played the multiplayer aspect of MoH, he insists residents of his country would not support a game he hails as “thoroughly un-British.”
Gamers and non-gamers are on opposing sides on this issue due to their perspectives. Gamers understand the intent behind MoH’s multiplayer is not to recreate acts of violence on American and British troops at the hands of the Taliban. Non-games see the game as trivializing war. EA has defended itself by asserting the fact that there are two sides to every fight. If one team fights on the side of the the US and UK, the other must naturally oppose them. EA has used a cops vs. robbers analogy to reiterate this point. The single-player campaign will not allow players to fight as the Taliban.
Medal of Honor will release on October 12, 2010 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
