I went to Wizard World Comic Con in Chicago, IL (US), this past weekend (August 19 through 22, 2010) and was able to see Brent Spiner, most famous for playing Data on Star Trek: Next Generation, at his Creation Experience panel on Saturday.

He talked about ST:NG

Spiner also liked to tease the fans when they would call him “Data” or say he is their favorite character, “Did you guys here that? She called me a character! Does she not know that I am a REAL person up here?”

As you may know, Spiner was in a bunch of movies that weren’t exactly A-list. Two of the movies he was in that didn’t quite make the Best Picture nominee where Master of Disguise starring him and Dana Carvey, and Material Girls with Halley and Hilary Duff.

“I would say Master of Disguise was more fun to shoot, and Dana Carvey is just an amazing person who has, possibly, too much comedic talent.”

I sympathized with his choice to except every role given to you because you never know when you will be turning down a award winning role.

He basically kept the crowd laughing by his antics, such as posing for us so we could get real photo ops and pretending that there were people waiting to ask questions on both sides of the stage when they were really all on one side “don’t worry, I didn’t forget about you guys on this side! Ask away!”

He also yelled at a man who was taping him from the front row, “Excuse me? Are you filming me? You’re gonna put this on YouTube aren’t you? SECURITY! No your fine, I’m just kidding… security…”

We were all treated to a Data music video before he came out to talk. The video showed various clips of Data from the show and from the ST movies, all played to the song “In the Middle of the Night” by Billy Joel, which added to the humor of the video.

Brent Spiner was very fun and gave everyone at the panel a great time and lots of laughs, he also gave me a fist pound after I talked to him.

By the way, if you ever see him in a restaurant, be sure to ask him if his food is too dry.
