MotorStorm 3D Rift will be available tomorrow (August 24, 2010) on PSN for $9.99. 3D Rift isn’t so much a full featured PSN game as it is a sample of what 3D gaming can do for racing games. 3D Rift comes with ten tracks taken from MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. Along with each stage comes 10 events that cater to each level. 3D Rift is solely a single-player experience. There is no versus mode, co-op or online multiplayer.
Even though 3D Rift’s greatest appeal is its obvious 3D functionality, gamers who don’t have a 3D television can still play the game in 2D. You can choose to look at it as a $10 expanded demo for MotorStorm: Pacific Rift.
I think Sony is using 3D Rift to get gamers used to the idea of MotorStorm: Apocalypse. Sony has been demonstrating Apocalypse in 3D in the majority of gaming events over the past few months. If Sony can hook us now, they have a guaranteed sale for MotorStorm: Apocalypse in February 2011.
