Sega’s been keeping secrets! The company has owned valkyria3.jp since the end of May, 2010 and hasn’t told anyone! That url should sound familiar, as it hints that Sega is working on Valkyria Chronicles 3, a third entry in the beloved Valkyria Chronicles series.
You can visit the possible Valkyria Chronicles 3 site right now. You won’t see anything though. It will just ask you for a user name and password, and then show you an authorization required page because you obviously won’t have the right credentials. Tweak the url slightly, by either changing the 3 to a 2 or removing the number completely, and you’ll be taken to the Japanese Valkyria Chronicles or Valkyria Chronicles 2 sites.
Sega will probably make a Valkyria Chronicles 3 announcement sometime within the next month. The game itself probably wouldn’t be out until sometime in 2011. The Japanese websites for Valkyria Chronicles and Valkyria Chronicles 2 were both registered about seven to eight months before the games were released. Following that precedent, Valkyria Chronicles 3 could theoretically be out sometime in January, 2011.
If Sega does come through with a third entry, it’ll probably get a US release as well. After all, Valkyria Chronicles and Valkyria Chronicles 2 did.
