AJ received a double dose of heartbreak last week on World Cyber Games Ultimate Gamer. He got sent home and is out of the running for the $100,000 prize. Also, he’s no longer able to kick back in the cushy Ultimate Gamer pad and hang out with Faye. It was a hard fall from grace, considering he placed first in the “real life” challenge.

Kat and Ryan formed an unlikely alliance. It could be short-lived as Kat couldn’t keep it a secret and felt compelled to tell Rachel. As the saying about secrets goes: If two people know, it is one too many. Kat has already been sent to one elimination and knows she is a target.

This week, the gamers will take on EA Sports’ NHL 11. This could give Sebastian an edge since the other gamer who specializes in sports games, Mike, got eliminated in the first episode. If you’re not the type of gamer that plays sports games to begin with, there’s a good chance you haven’t picked up a hockey game. I don’t know if Sebastian is a big hockey player either.

That’s the essence of Ultimate Gamer and how they keep competitors on edge. Last week, for example, two guys that knew virtually nothing about Mario Kart had to play it to save themselves. Sure, it’s about gaming on a superficial level. It’s also about trying to do your best, which is something we all can relate to.

After some down years for the franchise, EA’s NHL series has undergone a rebirth. EA is so pleased that Creative Director David Littman has been asked to do the same kind of magic with the company’s NBA games. New features in NHL 11 include what EA is touting as the “end of canned animations.” According to EA, every collision on the ice is unique. That goes from the players bashing into one another to the puck’s interaction with the sticks during faceoff.

WCG Ultimate Gamer airs September 2, 2010, at 11 p.m. (ET) on SyFy.
